Cy-Fair landscaping company sued by former employee

A former employee of a Cy-Fair landscaping business is suing the company after allegedly being hurt on the job.

Rigoberto Mancilla filed the lawsuit March 10 in Harris County District Court against Cypress Lawn and Landscaping Company Inc. He accuses the company of not providing equipment necessary to keep employees safe.

Mancilla says he was working for Cypress Lawn in December 2010 when his supervisor allegedly asked him to install Christmas lights on the roof of a home in Houston. Mancilla says he asked for an elevated platform to install the lights but was given an eight-foot ladder instead.

Mancilla claims he tried to put the lights up anyway, despite not being able to reach the roof properly, and fell off the ladder. He says he was seriously injured in the fall.

Mancilla accuses Cypress Lawn of negligence and asks for an unspecified amount of money in damages for medical expenses, loss of income and court costs.

Attorneys Israel Saldivar Jr. and Bernard Bolanos are representing Mancilla.
