Aragon student advances in national geography bee
Austin Metcalf, an eighth-grade student at Aragon Middle School, was recently named a semifinalist for the Texas Geographic Bee.
Bees were held in schools with fourth- through eighth-graders throughout the state to determine each school’s Geographic Bee winner. School-level winners then took a qualifying test, which they submitted to the National Geographic Society, who invited students with the top 100 scores to compete at the state level.
The 2011 Texas Geographic Bee will be held at the Pat May Center in Bedford on Friday, April 1. The state winner will receive $100, the Complete National Geographic series on DVD and a trip to Washington, D.C. to represent Texas in the national finals at the National Geographic Society headquarters on Tuesday, March 25, and Wednesday, March 25.
