Lone Star College-CyFair saxophonists Cheryl Nichols and Matthew Janik, participants and performers at the 2011 Texas Music Educators Association annual convention, were selected to be part of the prestigious Texas All-State Symphonic Band.

Lone Star College-CyFair’s (LSC-CyFair) musicians recently earned All-State recognition at the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) annual convention.

Eight LSC-CyFair students participated and performed at the 2011 TMEA convention in San Antonio, including two members of both the LSC-CyFair Jazz Ensemble and Symphonic Band as well as six choral members.

Cheryl Nichols and Matthew Janik made the Texas All-State Symphonic Band. LSC-CyFair’s choral students -- Monica E. Cummings, Virginia C. Faure, Allen C. Castle, Natalie A. Dierdorf, Jorge G. Aguilar and Chase Dorin -- were among 140 vocalists attending Dr. Eduardo Garcia-Novelli’s clinic and then performing the closing concert under his direction.

"All of them demonstrated their interest in the improvement of their skills and demonstrated great demeanor during the program," said Alex Qian, LSC-CyFair’s artistic director of vocal activities. "All of them expressed their gratitude to the program and said that they had learned a lot about themselves and their craft."

For those who want to see the students perform, there will be a choral performance of "Gloria" by Vivaldi on Friday, April 8. The Jazz Ensemble’s Jazzjam2 will take place on Wednesday, April 27.
