Three local HS alums lead Concordia past Hardin Simmons

Three area high school alums powered Concordia University Texas past Hardin Simmons, 6-5, in college softball action on Thursday.

Cy Creek High School graduate Erin Duhon went three-for-four at the plate, scoring two runs and driving in two as well. Duhon, a sophomore catcher, is batting .291 and is second on the team with 20 RBIs.

Duhon was a four-time letter winner at Cy Creek, where she was named All-Greater Houston. She also earned First-Team All-District during her junior and senior seasons. She is the daughter of Mike and Mary Duhon.

Cy Woods High School graduate Kat Moreno, a sophomore pitcher, earned the win for Concordia. Moreno pitched seven innings and struck out two batters to move to 9-5 on the year.

Moreno played at Cy Woods from 2005-2009, where she lettered all four years. She was the team's captain for two seasons and named the team's MVP in 2007-2008. Moreno was also Cypress Sun Player of the Year in 2008. She was named to the All-Cypress Sun Team while also earning 17-5A First-Team All-District honors.

Meghan Ferrell, a sophomore infielder, is batting .321 with two home runs and a team-best 23 RBIs.

Ferrell played at Deer Park from 2005-2009, where she was a four-year letter winner. She led her team to a pair of district titles in 2007 and 2008. Ferrell also earned two letters in basketball and one in volleyball, and was a four-year academic letterman.

She is the daughter of Mike and Paula Ferrell.
