Harmony students excel at math contest
A team of four students from Harmony School of Excellence recently competed in the 28th annual Texas State MATHCOUNTS Competition.
Up against 286 sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students from throughout Texas, the Harmony School team compiled the best score of 56 teams in the event, held at the Hilton Austin Airport Hotel.
Harmony School students competing were Vincent Liu, who placed eighth, Andrew Jin, who placed ninth, Adam Abu-Shear, who placed 13th, and Muaaz Ahmad, who placed 16th out of the 286 competitors to take the slot as the number one team in Texas. The students' coach was teacher Isil Nal, who will coach the Texas team at the national competition in May in Washington, D.C.
MATHCOUNTS is a national math coaching and competition program designed to increase enthusiasm for and enhance achievement in middle school mathematics.
