Harris County Sheriff's Office gets new deputy dogs
Boomer, Fozzie, Mikey and Tamara are the newest deputy dogs at the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
The canines were recently donated to the Sheriff's office by K-9's 4 Cops, a nonprofit organization that provides law enforcement agencies with specially trained dogs, officials said.
Officials said the dogs are trained to detect drugs, explosives and suspects as well as missing or lost people.
The new K-9 deputies are two Belgian Malinois, one giant Schnauzer and one German Shepherd.
"This is a tremendous donation," Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia stated in a news release announcing the addition of the new K-9s. "With current budget constraints we are extremely grateful to K-9's 4 Cops for the addition of these newest members to the HCSO. These trained dogs are valuable partners to our law enforcement community."
The Sheriff's Office now a total of 13 K-9 deputies.
