Project 2020 to hold fundraiser for youth education

Dr. Valerie Hill-Jackson will be the keynote speaker at The Project 20-20's Opening Day Brunch Fundraiser and Silent Auction June 4 at 10 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn Northwest in Houston.

Dr. Hill-Jackson is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Culture at Texas A&M University. Dr. Hill-Jackson earned her doctorate in educational leadership and is certified as an elementary and science teacher in supervision and curriculum development and as a principal.

As a practitioner, she served as a science teacher, department chairperson, director of a math and science program, and curriculum specialist. As an educator, she is a Geraldine R. Dodge fellow for outstanding teaching. Additionally, Dr. Hill-Jackson received Distinguished Educator of the Year, the 2007 Time Inc./People Magazine/Maybelline “Women Who Empower Through Education” award and the TAMU 2008 Association of Former Students Award for Distinguished Teaching.

She also received the 2010 Student Lead Award for Teaching Excellence and was nominated for the 2011 National Society of Collegiate Scholars’ Integrity Award.

A national scholar -- having received several prominent research awards -- Dr. Hill-Jackson is a published writer with several journal articles, numerous book chapters, one co-edited book and two pending books to her credit.
