HS baseball: Cy Creek defeats Cy Ranch

Cy Creek defeated Cy Ranch in District 17-5A baseball action Tuesday.

The Cougars, 16-7-0 overall and 10-2-0 in district play, won the game, 7-3.

A two-run double by Jordan Lee was the key hit for Cy Creek.

"We got a couple of hits from the bottom of our order," Cy Creek coach Michael McCollum said. We finally settled down and played good defense. We made a couple of errors early that gave them a couple of runs."

McCollum said he was pleased to see his team never get too comfortable in the game.

"We got a lead and we didn’t sit on it, didn’t get satisfied," he said. "We kept extending it."

This makes it nine wins in a row for Cy Creek. Cy-Ranch was the last team to beat them, but McCollum said there was no talk about that loss leading up to this rematch.

Cy Creek will host Cy Springs on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Tuesday’s loss drops Cy Ranch to 17-6-0 on the season and 8-4-0 in district games.

"We booted the ball around a bit," Cy Ranch coach John Pope said, pointing to two hit batters and a pair of errors in the early going. "We just gave them five runs."

"We didn’t really hit the ball," Pope said. "We left quite a few runners on base tonight."

Leon Byrd hit a home run in the loss. "After that home run, we didn’t do much," Pope said.

Cy Ranch will host Cy-Fair on Friday at 7 p.m.
