An active summer camp for kids in North Houston area
Take one look at the calendar and it now says April.
Where does the time go?
Soon it will be June and with it comes the age old question, “what to do with these kids?”
Kids love getting outdoors for the first couple days of summer vacation, but as temperatures soar and splashing in a pool becomes old, what happens? Kids turn to the sofa for television and snacks, the I-Pod, internet or video games.
In other words: a lot of inactivity.
Travis Tooke, of Tooke Mixed Martial Arts, wants to change that.
“During the summer Tooke Mixed Martial Arts will be hosting a summer camp with an emphasis on martial arts,” said Tooke. “Kids will learn about the benefits of martial arts and it will get them active.”
In addition to getting and staying fit, the martial arts summer camp is meant to build a child’s character as well. Childhood can be a lonely, troubling period at times and Team Tooke Mixed Martial Arts seeks to help with those problems.
“Kids involved in martial arts gain confidence and learn life skills,” said Tooke.
The summer camp will also involve events which normal summer camps also offer, such as field trips.
Tooke states that he plans to run the program Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., though that is subject to change as the time for the program grows near. Check back with Team Tooke Mixed Martial Arts for more information.
