Rotary Club honors mobile librarian with service award
Robin Charlesworth, President Rotary Club of Houston NW Sunset; Rita Wiltz, Executive Director of Childrens' Books on Wheels; Myeshi Briley, Vocational Service Chair of Rotary Club
Newly chartered Rotary Club of Houston NW Sunset recently awarded Rita Wiltz with the Vocational Service Award.
The award was presented to Wiltz for her leadership of the multi-county services’ organization Children’s Books on Wheels, a non-profit community-based organization promoting literacy through giving free books and acting as a resource program of Texas Health and Human Services in several counties.
Wiltz leads a mobile library program, which donates books to children and their families who need books, and to special needs children in rural communities and urban areas. Additionally, she allows her organization to serve as a resource for those in need by providing application assistance for Health and Human Services, with CHIP Children’s Medicaid, CHIP Perinatal, Food Stamps and Texas Women’s Health Program.
The Rotary Club of Houston NW Sunset assisted Wiltz in the literacy community project “Lemonade For Literacy” in November. The event gathered 650 books.
The club was chartered in May 2010 and its members are business leaders from Tomball, Cypress and Spring.
