Jersey Village grad Nick Stavinoha shines in Memphis loss
Jersey Village High School graduate Nick Stavinoha went 2-for-4 with a double, but the Memphis Redbirds lost 2-0 to the New Orleans Zephyrs in minor league ball on Wednesday.
Stavinoha played football and baseball at Jersey Village High School before attending the University of Houston for football.
Nick later transferred to San Jacinto College and played two seasons as a catcher. While at San Jacinto, Stavinoha hit 49 Home Runs and is a member of the Golden Anniversary all 50 Greatest JUCO World Series Participants.
Stavinoha went on to attend Louisiana State University.
He is one of the few players in college baseball to participate in both the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colo. (twice) and also at the NCAA D1 World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
Nick was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals out of Louisiana State University in the seventh round (No. 230 overall) of the June 2005 First-Year Player Draft.
The Memphis Redbirds are the Triple-A minor league baseball affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals.
