Cypress CPAs elected to CPA society leadership

Brian C. Jones, of Cy-Fair, has been named president-elect of the Houston CPA Society. Pamela Rasmussen, Cypress, has been elected secretary. Diana Castro, northwest Houston, tax manager, Consolidated Graphics, Inc. has been elected to the Board of Directors.
According to Nancy Rutledge, executive director of the Houston CPA Society, the organization is very fortunate to have the dedicated support of these volunteers.
Brian Jones, Gary N. Cooper, CPA, P.C., became active even before he received his CPA certificate and subsequently was awarded the "Young CPA of the Year" designation. He has a keen interest in technology issues and has served for several years as a member and chair of the Society's Information Technology Committee.
Pamela Rasmussen, on leave from her position as an executive recruiter to be a full-time mother, has been instrumental in providing guidance and leadership in the area of member retention and recruitment and with the Society's diversity initiative.
Diana Castro, an industry accountant, has previously served as chair of the Society's annual two-day Spring Accounting Expo - the largest continuing education program sponsored by the Society with over 1,000 CPAs attending.
The Houston CPA Society is the largest chapter of the Texas Society of CPAs and the third largest CPA Chapter in the United States with more than 8,700 CPA members in Houston and 13 surrounding counties. In addition to providing continuing professional education to its members, the 82-year-old Houston CPA Society has donated millions of dollars to charities through its charity events and golf tournaments.
The Society is the leading donor to Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana, having given over $2 million in the past 20 years. Since 2005, the Society has given 139 scholarships totaling $452,772. The Society delivers toys and books to 6,800 children associated with the Head Start program each year through Santa CPAs.
Each spring, the Houston CPAs provide free tax help to international students. They provide ongoing help to more than 30 other nonprofit organizations by lending skills to charity auctions and providing accounting advice to other nonprofit organizations.
