Nearly 1,000 finish at Bridgeland triathlon
From a press release:
Approximately 1,600 people gathered in Bridgeland Aug. 8 for the second annual Memorial Hermann Bridgeland Triathlon, with nearly 1,000 finishing the swimming-biking-running race.
Placing first among the male finishers was Bradley Pigage followed by Grant Glauser, second, and William Ritter, third. The top three females were Diann Sweeneyhuijsman, first; Kristi Darby, second; and Lisa Yarrow, third.
Sanctioned by USA Triathlon, the event included a point-to-point swim, flat bike course and partial trail run with shade throughout the master-planned community and along the Cypress Creek Nature Trail. A sell-out in its inaugural year, the triathlon again sold out this year, with the registration limit extended to accommodate more people.
We had great weather and the fastest competitive field in Houston, with 20 of the top-rated athletes in the city competing," said Aaron Palaian, co-owner and certified USAT race director of event organizer OnUrLeft Sports.
The group's next race will be the Memorial Hermann Houston Triathlon, set for Sunday, Sept. 26. The next Bridgeland triathlon is tentatively set for Aug. 7, 2011.
Finishers and more than 600 supporters enjoyed post-race revelry during the Finish Line Celebration, which featured local teen band, Broken Headlights, concessions and more. Announcing winners and keeping the event moving along was World Triathlon Corporation Ironman Announcer Adam Resier.
