Cy-Fair Kiwanis Club awards scholarships

The Kiwanis Club of Cy-Fair, Houston recently announced the recipients of its 2011 Kiwanis Leadership Scholarships.

The winners for 2011 are Andy Escobar, president of the Cy-Fair High School Key Club, Thalina Garcia, two-time secretary of the Cypress Ranch High School Key Club, and Chloe Potemans, two-time president of the Cypress Ranch High School Key Club. Each award will be made upon proof of admission to the college or university of the recipient’s choice.

Any Cy-Fair or Katy college-bound senior who has been a Key Club member in good standing for at least two years and has been an officer or major committee chair was eligible to apply for one of three $1,000 scholarships.

The Kiwanis Club of Cy-Fair, Houston sponsors nine Key Clubs in Cy-Fair and Katy ISDs with a combined membership of over 2,000 high school students.  Key Club members are given the opportunity to build character, develop leadership and provide service to others. These local Key Clubbers donated over 100,000 hours of service this past year to their homes, schools and communities.
