Cy Falls' Vazquez named athlete of week

The Chronicle's high school sports section has named Cy Falls soccer player Brian Vasquez the boys athlete of the week. The senior midfielder helped lead the Golden Eagles to the Houston ISD tournament championship by scoring three goals and adding five assists.
According to the Chronicle's Sam Khan Jr., Vasquez also scored the game-winning goal in the tournament championship game against Lee.
A quote from Vasquez's coach, Kevin Napier:
It has been neat to see this kid grow up. He has provided us some nice leadership on the field. In crunch time we were down a player against a pretty good Lee team and tied 2-2, and he hit a great shot."
Usman Mohammed, a soccer player at Cypress Christian, received an honorable mention for racking up nine goals and two assists in a span of three games last week.
