McKnight turns lights on Lobos' title run

Of note: The Lobos could be the team to beat after jumping out to a 3-0 start to the District 15-5A season.
Coming up: Langham Creek will host Cypress Lakes at 7 p.m. Friday and then travel to face Cy-Fair at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The Langham Creek Lobos probably have the best basketball player in District 15-5A in point guard Mackey McKnight.
And that one player could make them the team to beat in this year's district race.
Mackey McKnight is doing great,'' said Langham Creek head coach Charles Ament, who has watched his team knock off Cy Falls, Cy Springs and Cy Ranch to open 15-5A play.
He is averaging 25 points, seven assists, four rebounds and a couple steals per game.," Ament said, shaking his head at McKnight's skills.
The thing that is amazing is that he scores 25 points per game and still averages seven assists,'' Ament added. To put up numbers like that is a testament to what kind of player he is. He is completely fine with giving up the ball. He really enjoys giving it up.''
McKnight had 24 points in last week's solid 66-50 victory over Cy Ranch.
He is a consistent scorer,'' Ament said. But he enjoys getting his teammates involved as much as making a tough basket.
He scores in bunches,'' Ament said. He will have four or six in a row, then make a couple of passes. At times, I will look down at the box score and see he has close to 30 points. I will ask myself Wow, when did he do that?' It is fun to coach at kid like that.''
Depth is key, though, as Duke Reed, Chris Aaron and Jerome Harrell also are capable of putting up double figures on any given night.
Duke Reed has played really well,'' Ament said of his 6-foot-4 forward.
He can rebound and defend well.
Chris Aaron and Jerome Harrell also have had some big games,'' he said. Then, we have Alex Doolittle. He is 6-2, 290.
You look at him and wonder if he can move. Then, you see him guarding people, boxing out and dunking the ball.''
Langham Creek (14-7), Cy Woods (14-4) and Cy Ridge (10-10) currently are atop the league standings at 3-0. Cy Woods was the favorite coming into district play.
Cy Woods has Andre Adams,'' Ament said. He and Mackey are the top point guards in the league. They also have Carter (Nash), DeMarco (Richardson) and Calvin (Thomas) can score a little bit. They still are going to be tough to beat.''
Cy Woods beat Cy Springs 53-51, while Langham Creek had to go to overtime before taking care of Cy Falls.
It is hard to believe Cy Falls is 0-3 right now,'' Ament said. Cy-Fair and Cy Creek also lost their first two (before winning last week). You just never know in our league. You literally have to take one step at a time.''
But McKnight could give Langham Creek a leg up on the rest of the competition.
I am just glad he is on our team,'' Ament said.
He is a great guy to have in control out there down the stretch.''
