Son of area man earns Army Commendation Medal
Army Capt. Matthew S. Barger, son of Raymond Barger of Highland Arbor Drive in Houston and Gwen Barger of Nichols Drive in Hockley, has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal.
The medal is awarded to individuals who, while serving in any capacity with the Army, have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism, meritorious achievement or meritorious service.
Barger is a commanding general staff officer assigned to the Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command Headquarters, Detroit Arsenal, Michigan. The captain has served in the military for nine years.
In 2002, Barger received a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University, College Station.
