Jersey Village grad gets the best of Memorial grad on the diamond
Memorial High School graduate Koby Clemens went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a walk, but Jersey Village High School graduate Nick Stavinoha and the Memphis Redbirds beat the Oklahoma City Redhawks, 2-1, Tuesday.
Stavinoha went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI in the victory.
At Jersey Village High School, Stavinoha was part of three district-champion baseball teams ('98, '99, '00) and helped lead the football team to district titles in 1998 and 1999.
Nick is the son of Rick and Debbie Stavinoha and was born May 3, 1982.
Clemens is the son of former Major League all-star and Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens. He is a 2005 graduate of Memorial High School and an eighth-round (254th overall) selection of his hometown Houston Astros in the 2005 Major League Baseball draft. From 2005 to 2010, Clemens appeared in 605 games in the Astros' system, making it as high as Double-A Corpus Christi of the Texas League. Through 2010, Clemens was a career .270 hitter with 79 home runs and 378 RBI. In 2009, Clemens was named California League all-star catcher, high-A all-star DH and the Astros' minor league player of the year after hitting .345 with 45 doubles, six triples, 22 home runs and 121 RBIs for Lancaster, Clemens was born Dec. 4, 1986, in Houston.
