Northwest Houston residents will soon have a new swimming-pool option on the former site of the Inwood Forest Country Club.

The Near Northwest Management District recently drained and rehabbed the country club's six-lane, 25-meter pool, and is re-opening it as the Upper White Oak Pool. The district will be having a grand-opening pool party on July 1 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The pool is located at 7603 Antoine Drive.

Melanie Fahey, director of community affairs for the district, calls it "a nice pool in a part of town that doesn't have one.

"There's lots of smaller community pools, but as far as a real lap pool, this is it," Fahey adds.

Memberships for the pool will cost $150, but that will be discounted to $135 through July 1. Families can buy these discounted memberships at the July 1 pool party, and Fahey says the district is planning to sell them via PayPal soon on its website.

"The country club has been closed for about five years, and the city has purchased the land to use as flood retention," Fahey said. "We're tasked with managing the portion of the property that the clubhouse and pool sit on. This is the first thing that we've been able to open back up to the public."

Fahey says the next steps are to make sure the pool keeps clean, and to make sure it pays for itself through memberships.

"There was a lot of work, because it hasn't been used for five years, and it hadn't been drained," she said.
