Football: Lobos' Feist has singular goal
Just getting out of pool play, or even a high finish, isn't going to be good enough for Langham Creek at this week's 7-on-7 football state tournament in College Station.
"It's finally here (Friday-Saturday, July 15-16), and we're going there to win it all," Langham Creek junior quarterback Connor Feist said following a 7-on-7 practice early this week. "We're going to have great focus, and a top 10, or even top five finish just isn't going to do it.
"We're not going just to play and say we were there. We're going to win it."
The Lobos just missed a playoff berth last season, and they're picked to finish sixth in 17-5A this year by Texas Football Magazine, which describes Langham Creek as a "district darkhorse."
"We've seen it, and it's only added fuel to the fire because we feel like we're one of the best teams in the district and that we're going to end up in the top four," Feist said. "But you have to go out and prove it on the field, and that's the goal whether it's in 7-on-7 in the summer, or the real deal in the fall.
"We're ready for this week, and for the season to officially start on
Langham Creek's first pool game is at 2 p.m. Friday, July 15, against Klein Forest, which features senior quarterback Matthew Davis and plenty of additional firepower, according to coaches from 13-5A and 17-5A.
"We know we'll be challenged right away, and after working hard during our summer training program and in 7-on-7 workouts the past few weeks, we feel like we're ready," Feist said.
The Lobos will also meet El Paso Riverside and Rockwall in pool action with the top two finishers advancing into the championship bracket on Saturday, July 16.
