Cy-Fair area Girl Scout volunteer receives honor
Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council recently honored Girl Scout volunteer Lynda Starbuck of northwest Harris County for her service.
She received the Thanks Badge, a national award presented to adults for service benefiting the council or Girl Scout movement. A miniature trefoil pin is awarded to the spouse of the badge recipient.
"Her heart and soul belong to Girl Scouts, and she proves it every day in the many ways she supports not only Sunflower Service Unit but also GSSJC," said Lisa Modiette, Lynda's sister.
This year, Starbuck started a transition troop to help new leaders. She volunteered to lead mega meetings every two to three weeks until the new troops were established and meeting regularly.
She also helped adults with their paperwork and training, acted as their fall product manager and kept new troops from losing interest. By the time the troops started meeting regularly, they had a start-up fund, had been on a field trip and had leaders confident in their roles.
