Rummage sale to help provide clothing for Cy-Fair ISD kids

Local businesses and community members are hosting a rummage sale this weekend to benefit the Back to School Program of Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM).

The sale is Saturday, July 16, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of Tippit Dental, 9099 Katy Freeway, on the eastbound feeder between Echo Lane and Campbell Road. There will also be entertainment, music, refreshments and children's activities.

Proceeds from the sale will help provide clothing and school supplies to children in the Spring Branch, Aldine and Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School Districts.

This year, MAM has a goal of raising $181,000 and providing school uniforms for 4,500 children.

"Fifty-five percent of children live at or below the poverty line in Harris County. This is a way for MAM to help children start dressed and equipped to learn. Education is basic to any child's success in life, and we support the parents, teachers and administrators in their effort to build a solid foundation for each child," said MAM executive director Martha Macris in a statement.

Tippit Dental is still accepting donations of items to sell. Contact Andrea at 713-465-1860, ext. 111, or assoc3@tippitdental.com for more information.

MAM is a nonprofit organization aimed at helping families and individuals confronted with temporary crisis situations avoid homelessness and attain self-sufficiency. For more information, or to make a donation to the Back to School Program, call 713-574-7535 or visit helpherehelpnow.org.
