Cy-Fair student chosen for American Legion program in D.C.

Cy-Fair student Micah Petersen will be heading to the American Legion Boys Nation in Washington, D.C.

Petersen is one of 98 high school student representatives throughout the U.S. chosen to attend The American Legion Boys Nation. He is also one of two delegates selected from Texas to act as a senator based on leadership skills, academic record and activity at American Legion Boys State.

The weeklong program introduces the students to the structure and function of the federal government while combining lectures and forums with visits to federal agencies, institutions, memorials and historical spots in and around Washington, D.C.

The boys will gain experience in the political process through the organization of party conventions, the introduction and debate on bills and resolutions, and the election of an American Legion Boys Nation President and Vice President.

Boys Nation will be held from Friday, July 22, through Saturday, July 30, at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, with daily trips to Washington, D.C.
