Epicurean Evening showcases area restaurants
The 20th annual Epicurean Evening will feature food and drink from local vendors.
The Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce hosts the July 28 event at the Sam Houston Race Park, and organizers anticipate more than 1,000 guests.
More than 30 vendors celebrating the Greek-night theme will present specialty tastings for visitors, according to Sandy Barton, the chamber's vice president-membership and marketing.
The evening will include complementary wine samples, a raffle and information about wine.
The chamber's goal is to highlight the selection of quality food in the area.
"Restaurants are one of the many wonderful amenities we have. It's such a great evening for exhibitors and guests. It's an amazing dining experience. People really have a ball," Barton said.
A new addition will be the appearance by author Erin Hicks Miller, who will sign copies of her latest book, Houston Classic Mexican Recipes.
Dave Crume, event chair from Sweet Tomatoes, and Alan Smith, co-owner of Hasta La Pasta and Lasagna House, are excited to be among the vendors participating.
Crume will bring Sweet Tomatoes' favorites such as Joan's Broccoli Madness and chocolate chip cookies, along with a few surprises for guests. This will be Sweet Tomatoes eighth year to participate.
He said his involvement with the organizing committee has been an experience that reflects the chamber's dedication to the community and Epicurean Evening.
"The best thing is being part of this committee where bankers, insurance agents and the whole gamut of community leaders are on board. We want to show the restaurants from the FM 1960 area, from casual fare to chains to independents. This year visitors will see a little bit of everybody," Crume said.
Based on his 15-years experience with the Epicurean Evening, Smith said the event has proven to be a night where families, employees and visitors all enjoy themselves.
"This is a natural fit where restaurants can showcase their food and staff to the public. I like the social interaction with the guests where I see a lot of our current customers. I love going. It's where you can eat, drink and be merry," said Smith, who is also a HNWCC board member.
Barton said the event will benefit the chamber's Economic division.
"We're excited. It's always one of our best events," she said.
