Jersey Village HS grad Jeff Mandel earns win on hill for Syracuse
Jersey Village High School graduate Jeff Mandel struck out two in picking up the win and moving to 4-3 as the Syracuse Chiefs beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, 4-2, Saturday.
Mandel was a 2003 graduate of Jersey Village High School before playing four seasons (2004 to 2007) with Baylor University. Mandel logged a career mark of 14-11 and eight saves with the Bears in 72 appearances, 25 of which were starts. Mandel had a career college ERA of 3.78 and fanned 151 hitters.
Following his senior season, Mandel was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 19th round (580th overall) of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft. He was born April 30, 1985, in Houston.
