HFAC to present 'Kissless' previews before moving to NYC stage
The Houston Family Arts Center Actors Academy will be presenting previews of the musical "Kissless" before making its world premiere at the 2011 New York Musical Theatre Festival.
There will be a total of three preview performances at the Berry Center. The first will be at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, the second at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, and the last at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18.
“Kissless the Musical,” with book, music and lyrics written and composed by Houston native Chance McClain, is about two very different people forced to live together for the summer and the unlikely relationship that develops to much to their friends’ and families’ chagrin. The cast of characters is a motley crew that includes Abercrombie jocks, misfit Goths, brainy nerds and others that captures for audiences what it means to be a teenager in the 21st century.
Typically shows that are selected to perform at the NYMF are not allowed to perform 60 days before appearing at the festival. “Kissless” was so well received by Houstonites, however, that the musical requested and received a special waiver so they could showcase these preview performances.
