TxDOT to break ground on Grand Parkway segment
The Texas Department of Transportation will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday for a 15.2-mile stretch of the Grand Parkway that will run north and south between the Northwest Freeway and Interstate 10.
The four-lane stretch will be part of the planned toll road's eventual loop around the Houston area. TxDOT hopes this segment, known as Segment E, will ease congestion along the Northwest Freeway, I-10 and other busy routes in northwest Harris County.
Segment E is slated to be open for traffic sometime in 2013, according to a schedule on the Grand Parkway Associaton's website.
Tuesday's groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. at the intersection of State Highway 99 and Franz Road. Many public officials are slated to speak at the groundbreaking, including State Sen. Tommy Williams, State Sen. Joan Huffman, State Sen. Dan Patrick, State Rep. Bill Callegari, State Rep. Allen Fletcher, Texas Transportation Commissioner Ned S. Holmes and TxDOT Interim Executive Director John Barton.
