Football: Rams charge from start
After trailing 14-0, Cy Ridge came back to edge Langham Creek 35-34 on a walk-off touchdown pass from quarterback Jeff Nabors to Rodney Brooks as time expired in a District 17-5A opener on Sept. 8. Special teams have played a big role in the early success with senior Cernord Morris picking up a crucial first down on a fake punt against Langham Creek, the field goal team going 100 percent on field goals and extra points, sophomore Austin Hawkins a threat on kickoff returns, and senior Camon Adams supplying superior kickoff coverage. Senior linebacker Avery Strong and sophomore corners Michael Austin and Austin Hawkins have stood out, with offensive leadership coming from junior running back Rennie Childs, a line that features senior Jordan Wade and juniors David Dawson and Ronald Jackson, and wide outs Brooks, senior James Burch and sophomore Darious Crawley connecting with senior quarterback Nabors.
