Cypress Woods High grad completes Navy basic training

Kyle L. Oehring, a graduate of Cypress Woods High School, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

The training is an eight-week program that includes classroom study, practical instruction in naval customs, first aid, firefighting, shipboard and aircraft safety and other topics important to Navy seamen. The training ended with "Battle Stations 21," a simulation that works on developing teamwork, self-sacrifice and endurance as recruits apply the skills they learned during training.

Oehring graduated in 2009 and went on to attend Houston Baptist University on a soccer scholarship. He is the son of Klaus and Vickie Oehring of Cypress.
