Cleanup of Creek under way
Greg DiCioccio, the district's project manager, said Horsepen Creek was built in the 1980s and over the years has accumulated sediment at the bottom of the channel, reducing the amount of water it can hold. Workers will remove the sediment and also repair eroded pipes and sections of the creek's side slopes that allow sediment to fall into the creek. Heather Saucier, flood control district spokeswoman, said several neighborhoods bordering the creek will benefit from the project, including the Hearthstone Community and Country Club, Bradford Colony, Charlestown Colony, Jamestown Colony, Fairway West, Concord Bridge, Copperfield Place and a mobile home community. The Harris County Commissioners Court recently approved awarding the project to general contractor Sprint, Sand & Clay, LLC.
