Baseball: Mustangs in spring shape
The Mustangs, who defeated Foster in the 2010 TASO tournament finals, were edged 3-2 by The Woodlands on Oct. 1 with all the runs scored in the second inning. Cy Ranch's lineup was peppered with returning senior regulars including shortstop Leon Byrd (Rice), second baseman and leadoff man Bryce Stark, outfielder Zach Smith, outfielder-pitcher Zach Bragg and first baseman-pitcher Grant Slaughter, and another top letterman, junior pitcher-outfielder Zach Brosch, got the call on the mound against The Woodlands. The Houston TASO (Texas Association of Sports Officials) Tournament has raised more than $250,000 in scholarship funds over the past 12 years, and this was the sixth year the finals were held at Minute Maid, according to tournament director Ron Blumrick and assistant director Ed Zalewski
