Cy-Fair woman taps writing talent

Inspired by a memory, Nakia Laushaul started writing and began a new career. Set in Houston, Running From Solace chronicles the journey of an abused child in foster care. Lashaul said it was the characters that motivated her to create a tale that touched lives. Each book I do will have a cause, said Laushaul, a Cy-Fair area resident. ReShonda Tate Billingsley, a Missouri City-based fiction author of 23 books, read Laushaul's latest book recently and "loved, loved it." Brooke Hawkins, longtime friend and northwest Houston resident, also is a fan. Laushaul, a Los Angeles native, was raised by her grandmother, Ethel Benson Her home environment and reading Maya Angelou's book, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, at the age of 9 were major influences in her life. Through the process of writing, Laushaul, a member of The Fountain of Praise Church, credits God with keeping her on track.
