Cy-Fair Roundup: 17-5A race tough and tight
At 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, Cy-Fair (6-0 overall, 5-0 District 17-5A) meets Cy Falls (6-0, 5-0) for sole possession of first place at Pridgeon Stadium, while Cy Woods (4-2, 3-2) takes on Langham Creek (4-2, 3-2) at Berry Stadium with the winner taking over fourth place and the final playoff position for now. Langham Creek has an outstanding quarterback to go along with outstanding running backs and receivers, and their offensive line is one of the best around. With four games to go, seven of the 10 teams in 17-5A are very much in the running for the four playoff berths, and even Cy Creek (2-4, 1-4), Cy Lakes (0-6, 0-5) and Cy Springs (0-6, 0-5) are still mathematically in there for at least another week. Cy Woods football has averaged nearly 65 points per outing over its last three games and the Wildcats are doing it with a two-quarterback system featuring senior Gabriel West and junior Nate German High school basketball is just around the corner and defending 17-5A girls champion Cy Falls begins its 2011-12 campaign against its final opponent from last season.
