Tea For Two Tea Room, with locations in Lakewood Forest and Copperfield, are donating a portion of their proceeds from all their holiday festivities to Cypress Assistance Ministries in an effort to help the community during these hard economic times.
Owner Linda Becker said this is their first time to partner with CAM.
Tea for Two locations are at 13115 Louetta in Lakewood Forest and at 8475 Highway 6 North in Copperfield.
A portion of the proceeds from the 5th Annual Gifts from the Kitchen Cooking Classes, Turkeys to Go, and sales from pies and cakes will go to CAM.
Cooking classes are $50. Turkeys to Go, which will be sold over the holiday season, are $79 plus tax and feed six to eight people.
Pies and cakes start at $12 each.
Becker, who is a member of Christ the Redeemer Church at 11507 Huffmeister, has contributed to projects benefiting CAM through her parish.
She said the community has responded enthusiastically with helping CAM.
Our classes are really popular," said Becker, a Cypress-area resident. The ladies just love it. We hope to bring in a lot of money for CAM."
Kelly Thomas, CAM assistant director, said the donations will be greatly needed this holiday season.
We're thrilled to be the beneficiary and have sent e-mails out to support this," Thomas said. We have a very heavy client load this year. Events like this can go a long way. There are people living on the borderline. We try to help them however we can with rent or electricity assistance."
CAM, 11202 Huffmeister, has volunteers and staff counselors that help with their food pantry, GED/ESL classes and Operation Job program.
Our goal is to keep people in their own homes and back to their normal lives," Thomas said. We also help underemployed and unemployed persons get back to work through our community partnerships with area businesses."
Glass, director of catering and special events at Tea For Two, said they were glad to help an organization like CAM that they've known for years.
This is our first time ever to donate a portion of our proceeds," Glass said. When Linda and I started brainstorming, we knew we've been much more fortunate than most. We decided to reach out to the community that has supported us."
Tea For Two offers lunches, catering and cooking classes.
Colleen McNeff, a graduate of the Culinary School at the Art Institute at 1900 Yorktown, has joined the staff as their pastry chef.
CAM is also accepting monetary donations, new toys, frozen turkeys and holiday food for the upcoming season. An Angel Tree is also part of CAM's holiday assistance program.
