'A Lesson Before Dying' takes the stage at Houston Family Arts Center
The Houston Family Arts Center is performing "A Lesson Before Dying" until Feb. 5.
The Ernest J. Gaines play is about personal redemption. Set in rural Louisiana, it tells the story of two men, a convicted murderer and a schoolteacher, trying to free themselves of society's chains. The play is an adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-nominated novel of the same name.
The cast is filled with actors from the Houston area, and the play is being directed by Lisa Garza, HFAC assistant artistic director.
Performances will be at 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27; Saturday, Jan. 28; Friday, Feb. 3; and Feb. 4, and 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29 and Feb. 5. All performances will be on the main stage of the arts center, located at 10760 Grant Road.
Tickets are $16 for adults, $14 for seniors and $12 for students. They can be purchased at www.houstonfac.com or by calling 281-685-6374.
