Swenke student wins spelling bee
Swenke Elementary School student Jules Girdner has won the district spelling bee.
Girdner, a fourth-grade student, took first place by correctly spelling "sarcasm."
Alinee Nguyen, a fifth-grader from Gleason Elementary School, was the runner-up. Both students will go on to compete in the Houston PBS Regional Spelling Bee at the University of Houston on March 31.
The Elementary Spelling Bee was held Feb. 7 at the Berry Center.
Swenke Elementary School is located at 22400 Fairfield Place Drive.
