Lone Star College-Cy Fair essay winner shares her story
Lone Star College-Cy Fair has selected Sarah Borchgrevink as a scholarship essay winner.
Borchgrevink received the award for her essay "How My Community College Experience Changed My Life" during the 19th annual Lone Star College Foundation Chancellors’ Breakfast.
“I have the power to evolve,” Borchgrevink said in a press release.
Her winning essay chronicled the ups and downs of her dysfunctional childhood. In it, she described her feelings of embarrassment and vulnerability, viewing herself as “a tiny dot among a world of color.”
Borchgrevink went on to express how her experiences at LSC-Cy Fair have changed her immeasurably for the better. She thanked the school for helping her to discover her inner strength and enthusiasm, which she knows she will need to realize her dream of becoming a high school English teacher.
Borchgrevink, a wife, mother and writer, thanked Alexander Hogan, associate professor of political science, for supporting her in applying for the scholarship.
