Cy Falls girls basketball team headed to state

The Cypress Falls High School girls basketball team advanced to the Texas Girls Basketball State Tournament, to be held Thursday, March 1, to Saturday, March 3.

The team will represent CFISD after beating Alief Elsik, 50-27, to capture the Region III-5A regional championship Saturday, Feb. 25. This is the Lady Eagles' first appearance ever at the state tournament.

"Its an exciting week for our players and coaches and school. To me it speaks volumes about these kids at Cy Falls High School and their commitment to work hard, persevere, believe in a dream and go out and work for it every day," said head coach Jim Stephens in a press release. "We're so proud of them. They do it in the classroom, on the court and in every area of their life. Its fun to see these kids be successful and be blessed and have an opportunity to play on a big stage.

The Lady Eagles (37-2) will face Region I representative Duncanville (38-1) in the state semifinal game at 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 2, at the Frank Erwin Center, located at 1701 Red River, in Austin.

The winner will advance to the state final at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3.
