Go Red for Women luncheon keeps the beat
Houston's Go Red for Women Luncheon fundraiser held Feb. 13 at the Berry Center in Cypress netted more than $175,000 to benefit heart disease research.
The event, sponsored by the American Heart Association, was attended by more than 500 supporters. Attendees received health screenings provided by Methodist Willowbrook and Methodist West Houston Hospital, make-up demonstrations courtesy of Macy's Willowbrook Mall and a silent auction featuring artwork by Klein Independent School District students and tickets to Texans, Astros and Dynamos games.
Guests were also treated to educational presentations from Dr. Miguel Gomez, cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon with Methodist West Houston Hospital, and Dr. Valentina Ugolini, general cardiology with Willowbrook Cardiovascular Associates. Deborah Medellin, a heart-disease survivor, also spoke to the group.
According to the American Heart Association, one in three women suffer from some form of cardiovascular disease, taking the lives of more than 480,000 women each year. These statistics make it the number one killer of women in America.
