LSC celebrates Earth Week

Lone Star College-CyFair is hosting a week-long celebration to commemorate Earth Day.

According to a press release, the week-long celebration will be from Monday, April 23-28 at the Barker Cypress campus, located at 9191 Barker Cypress.

The event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, electric car demonstration, geocache race, tree-planting event and a poster contest. Visitors are also encouraged to participate in Adopt-A-Highway and beach cleanup efforts happening in the area.

Faculty with LSC-CyFair will present a documentary covering the resurgence of electric cars, sunrise bird watching and a student environmental debate on animal rights. The faculty will also present educational sessions on climate, energy savings, mountaintop removal mining, effects of drought on birds and nature's resilience to droughts and fire.

Student organizations will host two days of the Wells Project Water Walk and a week-long electronics recycling event.

In addition, LSC-Fairbanks Center, located at 14955 Northwest Freeway, celebrated Earth Day by featuring a student poster contest, garden art contest and community garden plant giveaway Thursday, April 19.
