Cypress Girl Scout earns Gold Award

Girl Scout Lindsey Hardin was awarded the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council Gold Award for her work with Reach Unlimited.

Girl Scout Lindsey Hardin was awarded the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council Gold Award for her work with Reach Unlimited.

Hardin's efforts involved repainting and redesigning the sports and music rooms at the Houston-based organization, a nonprofit providing support for the intellectually and developmentally disabled. When the project was finished, Hardin organized a field day for the Reach Unlimited clients. According to a press release announcing her award, her work has benefited nearly 150 clients.

"I learned that I need patience in everything I do," Hardin said in the press release. "I have learned to be patient because if you want things to look great, you might have to spend more time on it."

Awarded to less than 5 percent of all Girl Scouts, the Girl Scout's Gold Award is the highest award its members can receive. It involves more than 100 hours of community service and two to three years of work to complete the requirements. Recipients of the award, through their planning and completion of the project, demonstrate leadership, career planning, community involvement and personal development.

A 13-year Girl Scout, Hardin is a senior at Cy-Fair High School in Cypress and plays on the varsity golf team. She plans to attend college after graduation to study business.
