Cy Woods alum not enough in UTSA baseball loss
Matt Sims, a 2010 graduate of Cy-Woods High School, struck out two batters in 1.1 innings of work, but UTSA fell 4-2 to Southeastern Louisiana in men's college baseball action on Sunday.
In high school, Sims was a two-year letter winner at pitcher for coach Thomas Loria. In his senior year, he went 6-3 on the mound with a 2.73 ERA, recording 93 strikeouts in 56 innings of work. He threw a two-hit shutout that season against rival Cy-Creek High School.
Offensively, Sims batted .389 at the plate to earn first-team all-district recognition. Sims was selected to the Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Game and received Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association academic all-state honors.
He is the son of Rick and Julie Sims, and is an accounting major in college.
