The 37 members of the Cypress Ranch Key Club traveled to Dallas recently for the Texas-Oklahoma District Key Club Convention and earned numerous awards, honors and scholarships.
The 4-year-old club is one of the largest in the world with its 630 members and has been ranked as the fourth best Key Club of the nearly 300 clubs in both states, up four places from 2010-2011.
An antibullying lip dub by Cypress Ranch High School, created by CRHS Student Council President Triple Oswald, was shown during the convention's opening session.
The club earned first for its traditional scrapbook and digital poster, both of which will compete this summer at the international convention in Orlando, Fla. The one-minute video will also be entered into the international competition after a second-place finish.
Other awards include first place for the club newsletter and first for the club's work with "Operation: Overwatch." Banner patches are District Project, Governor's Project and Distinguished Website. The club was recognized for providing a pocket flag folding service project for the opening evening of the convention.
Mikaela Kufrovich earned third in the impromptu essay contest, and treasurer Sara Gates won the Charles Parker Outstanding Club Treasurer Award as well as the Leader of Leaders Award for her work with other organizations. District Governor Megan Iselin was awarded the Walter Zeller Award, and a donation of $1,500 was made in her honor to the Eliminate Project.
The Ranch Key Club also taught a forum titled "Maximizing Club Potential" after the forum the club taught at last year's convention was chosen as the top-ranked forum by convention attendees.
Iselin was retired as district governor and gave her position to Brian O'Hara of Manor. Iselin and Cypress Ranch Club President Taylor Gossett both received college scholarships.
