Cy-Fair Chamber Herd shows support for FFA students

Students of the Cy-Fair Independent School District and Future Farmers of America helped to raise $676,616 in the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Livestock Show.

This substantial increase from the previous year's earnings of $551,485 was achieved through the auctioning of livestock. The highest-earning animal was a grand champion steer sold by Cypress Ranch High School student Lauren Jordan for $26,000 to Kodiak Gas Services.

The Future Farmers of America program is designed to teach students how to take care of livestock. District CTE coordinator David Reynolds said in the press release, "FFA teaches them leadership, career development, financial responsibility, hard work and dedication."

The local Future Farmers of America projects were funded by the Chamber Herd, a group formed in 1998 to pool donations in support of FFA students. The Chamber Herd also helped by purchasing at least one animal from each high school program for a total of 11. The processed product purchased will be donated to Cypress Assistance Ministries Food Pantry and Boys & Girls Country.

Ten percent of every meal purchased at the Goode Company BBQ will be donated to the Chamber Herd in support of future FFA projects.
