Cy Falls, Strake Jesuit and Kingwood grads lead Texas State to victory

Cy Falls, Strake Jesuit, and Kingwood High School graduates helped Texas State defeat Northwestern State, 10-4, Friday.

Cy Falls high school graduate Hunter Lemke struck out four batters in two innings pitched for Texas State.

Lemke is a 2010 graduate of Cy Falls High School where he played baseball for Coach Carl McClosky.

As a senior, he was a first-team all-district pitcher while leading the Golden Eagles to a 28-6 record. He compiled 118 strikeouts in 66 innings of work on the hill to go along with a 1.87 ERA. Lemke also batted .413 with five home runs. The son of Scott and Missie Lemke, he is an undecided major at Texas State.

Strake Jesuit high school graduate Jeff McVaney went 5-for-5 with five RBIs in the victory.
McVaney finished Saturday's game with a career-high five hits to go along with five RBIs, a run scored and two stolen bases. The senior upped his batting average to .332 for the season and now has a team-high 42 RBIs in 2012.

McVaney is a 2008 graduate of Strake Jesuit where he was a two-sport standout winning three varsity letters on both the football and baseball teams. On the diamond for Coach Raul Garcia-Remeau, he was a three-time all-District 17-5A selection on the mound and in the outfield.

McVaney was also an all-city and all-state honoree. On the gridiron, he rushed for more than 2,000 yards in his three-year career and was selected to Dave Campbell's Texas Football Top 300. He is the son of Stacey and John McVaney, who played professionally for the Baltimore Orioles. He is a management major.

Kingwood high school graduate Kyle Finnegan stuck out one batter in four innings of work.

A 2010 graduate of Kingwood High School, Finnegan played baseball for coach Kelly Mead. As a senior, he garnered first-team all-district honors as he led the team to a 27-7 record and a district crown. Finnegan was also picked to play in the Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association all-star game. A business major at Texas State, he is the son of William and Kelly Finnegan.
