Houston Family Arts Center announces 2012-2013 season
The Houston Family Arts Center has announced its eighth subscription season of plays and musicals that reflect the theme of "Memories and Traditions."
The season includes a timeless American classic, a Tennessee Williams drama, three Tony Award-wining musicals, the "revival" version of a musical with characters created by cartoonist Charles M. Schultz and two comedies. Opening night is Aug. 17 with "Our Town," and the season concludes July 28, 2013, with "Fiddler On The Roof."
"For most of us, our fondest childhood memories revolve around family traditions," said Joshua Clark in a news release. "These were little things we held onto and looked forward to. We could rely on these things happening year after year. As we mature, we come to rely on certain rituals and events that unify us and bring back memories of the past. These rituals can be annual, like holiday gatherings and family reunions, or destination specific, like vacationing in the same place each year. Traditions create closeness between people, a sense of belonging and identity. They link us to the bigger picture and connect us to people who have come before us. Our world is often an insecure place in which to live. People move around a lot. Families and friendships are broken. Tragedy is a part of life. Traditions provide something reliable and secure in our lives and those of our children.
"When I think of traditions and how much they contribute to our lives, I think of 'Fiddler on The Roof ' and Tevye singing his heart out to explain why we do certain things time and time again -- because it's tradition. We invite you and your family to enjoy every show of our carefully selected 2012-2013 season, focused on memories and traditions."
Subscriptions range from $92-$144 and can be purchased online at www.houstonfac.com or by calling the HFAC box office at 281-685-6374.
