Amazing Spaces opens GREENspot drop-off location in Cypress

Amazing Space Storage Centers recently teamed up with GREENspot DROPoff to provide Houston residents with a place to recycle electronic waste free of charge.

Four drop-off areas have been opened as of June 8 at the following Amazing Spaces storage locations:

Amazing Spaces Champions, located in Vintage Park at 9040 Louetta Road in Spring.

Amazing Spaces Cy-Fair, located in Jersey Village at 10830 W. Road in Houston.

Amazing Spaces The Woodlands, located at 18250 Interstate 45 South in The Woodlands.

Amazing Spaces Medical Center, located in West University at 2412 W. Holcombe Blvd. in Houston.

Items that the GREENspot program will collect include computer monitors, PC boards, laptops, computers, computer mice, fax machines, printers, DVD players, VCR/Betas, cables and cords, stereo components, hard drives, tape and zip drives, radios, printed circuit board assemblies, optical drives, oscilloscopes and other miscellaneous electronic waste.

This kind of waste can be very harmful to the environment when improperly disposed of and can even pose a threat to human health. Chemical compounds and heavy metals like lead can leak into the drinking water and damage the central nervous system. GREENspot and Amazing Spaces hope to keep electronic waste out of landfills.

“It’s really fantastic to see Amazing Spaces take charge in diverting electronic waste that typically ends up in our landfills,” said Mike Wachtel, president of GREENspot DROPoff, in the press release. “Their commitment to preserving the quality of our environment certainly raises the bar for the rest of the industry.”

Waste products that have been deposited at one of the drop-off locations will be sent to a certified recycler for processing, where they will be sorted, dismantled and sent to manufacturers to be reused in other products.

“It’s a huge challenge in so many ways,” said Dan Jaeggi, general manager at GREENspot, in the press release. “…but by partnering with environmentally conscious companies like Amazing Spaces Storage Center, we’re able to provide the general public with a no-cost, convenient and responsible recycling solution for their end-of-life electronics.”
