Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center recognized for maternity care excellence

For the fifth consecutive year, Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital recently was awarded the Maternity Care Excellence Award, according to a report by HealthGrades.

The hospital, ranked among the top 10 percent in the nation for maternity care, is one of 224 facilities across the country to be rated five stars in the maternity category. According to HealthGrades, hospitals with five-star ratings experience 62 percent fewer birth complications than those rated lower.

"As women become more likely to seek medical attention based on public reporting outcomes, this level of detail in reduction of complications will be most important," said Divya Cantor, HealthGrades' senior physician consultant and the study's author, in a press release. "Which hospital an expectant mom chooses for her baby's birth can result in lifelong consequences for both her and her baby. Physicians and all caregivers are able to use this data as impetus for improving their quality outcomes."

The ranking, based on research conducted by HealthGrades, determined which hospitals have fewer vaginal delivery maternal complications, fewer cesarean section complications, fewer low birth weight deliveries and lower infant mortality rates.

Since its opening in the early 1980s, Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital has delivered more than 39,000 babies. The facility provides comprehensive obstetric services for prenatal care, facility tours, childbirth preparation classes and advanced care for high-risk pregnancies.
