Fire marshal cautions residents about fireworks

Selling, buying, using or possessing fireworks in League City is illegal, and local fire officials want to make sure residents know it.

Fire marshals will be on patrol and issuing citations for illegal fireworks use during the week of Fourth of July. Parents of children using fireworks will be cited as well.

Sparklers are not included in the ban, but can be dangerous when not used with caution. They can reach temperatures of 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit and retain heat even after the sparks stop flying.

"Please remember that while they are legal, sparklers can be very dangerous and residents should use extreme caution when using them," said Wanda Martin, League City fire marshal, via a press release. "Independence Day holiday is a time of celebration; we want to ensure that those celebrations are done with safety and fire prevention in mind."
