Sheriff's Office opens registration for Citizens Police Academy
Registration is open for the Harris County Sheriff's Office Citizens Police Academy beginning Aug. 9, according to a release.
The goal of the course is to instruct CPA students on the Texas Penal Code, terrorism, gang awareness and patrol procedures to create better partners between law enforcement and the community. Graduates also can help the sheriff's office identify problems and solutions with crime in the county.
The 13-week course will take place from 4-7 p.m. Thursdays at the El Franco Lee Community Center, 9500 Hall Road, Houston. The course is free, but enrollment is limited to Harris County residents who are at least 21 years old.
The registration deadline is July 30. To register, contact the HCSO's Community Services Division at 713-759-9454 or pick up an application at any HCSO storefront or substation.
